Balance, The Equinox and Mabon, or Ostara...
A time for balance is upon us, and 2 rituals for you.
Dear Seeker of Petals and Reveries! 💛
I find tarot so funny sometimes. The way it sometimes is just so obvious in its message. Yesterday I posted a weekend vibe tarot message on Instagram. The card that came out was the 9 of Wands! The weekend and the 9 of Wands… see what I mean, obvious! It then also occurred to me that it was the equinox. I didn’t give much thought to it because it was my eldest son’s birthday, so my focus was on our family dinner. However, I love how that one card just seemed to align to everything, especially for the southern hemisphere as the wheel turned to Mabon.
Mentally, my mind hasn’t quite turned in alignment with the wheel, but my body definitely is. As you may recall from my last letter that I was feeling burnt out, and so I have been mindfully and actively focusing on rest and healing. Whilst having a family can create chaos, I steal moments when no one is home to do my spiritual practices. And trust me, it’s better when no one is home because they think I’m a bit woohoo anyway, lol!
Today I have shuffled the deck and asked what message I could share with you. The first card out was The Devil. Again, I had a little giggle to myself because I thought this card also sits perfectly with the message I had shared on Instagram. Let me explain…
The weekend vibe was about taking time out. Taking time to rejuvenate, and tying in with the equinox, it was about inviting more rest into our lives to bring in that balance between doing and just being. As I am writing this, another thought has occurred with The Devil and its role in the equinox. The equinox is equal daylight and night, light and dark; and if you look at the card there is a white angel and a dark angel. Again, the light and the dark. And the things that are good for us and the things that are not good for us! Everything is about balance, and I feel this is a strong message for this equinox. As you would expect!
Your heart is a garden—tend it well, and it will bloom with love in every season.🌹
The Rose Temple
So what message are the cards reflecting to us? Definitely the need to balance the things in our lives that need balancing. Let go of the things that are not healthy for you. This can range from food, to friendships, to work, to even mindset. Invite in or embrace what is healthy for you. Healthy food is always a great start, but also finding the people that bring you more joy, exercise, nature, gratitude etc… With the 4 of swords, again we have a message of rest, and for those of us in the southern hemisphere we are approaching the darker and colder days, (even though it’s still high 30’s, haha). As I look upon the 10 of Swords, I hear the message, “Lay down your sword!” And once again, it draws my attention to the the 4 of Swords. Let go and rest. With the 3 of Wands, I also get the energy of letting go so you can make room to receive what is wanting to come in. If you are energetically holding onto things that no longer align with you, you can’t receive what is waiting to come in. (Mental note to self!!)
The Queen of Cups is speaking very clearly here, “ Darlings, brew yourselves a fresh pot of tea and a little bit of magic. Pour that old stale brew down the drain where it belongs!” Just to be clear, I don’t hear voices, but I do, and hers was quite funny!
Finally the 3 of Pentacles and the 3 of Cups is a call to balance our earthly matters with the spiritual realm. Stay grounded but connecting spiritually is also important for our well-being. “A little bit of earth magic is called for!” came through. Take from that what you will, but even spending time in nature is earth magic as well. To help you with a little bit of earth magic, here are two rituals for you depending on what hemisphere you live in. Enjoy!
🍂 Mabon: A Ritual of Balance & Gratitude
A Celebration of the Autumn Equinox
🌾 Theme: Harvest, balance, gratitude, and preparation for the descent into the darker half of the year.
🌿 You Will Need:
A small bowl of apples, grapes, or seasonal fruit (to honour the harvest).
A candle in gold, deep red, or dark green (to represent the waning sun).
A cup of spiced wine, cider, or herbal tea (to warm the spirit).
A small offering for the earth (such as seeds, dried herbs, or a piece of bread).
A mirror or reflective surface (to symbolise balance).
🌕 The Ritual
1. Create Sacred Space
Find a quiet place, indoors or in nature, and arrange your ritual items before you. Light the candle, breathing deeply as you honour the balance between light and dark.
2. Honour the Harvest
Hold a piece of fruit in your hands and reflect on what you have harvested—both physically and spiritually—since the last Spring Equinox. What efforts have borne fruit? What wisdom have you gained? With gratitude, take a bite, savouring the sweetness of this moment.
3. The Mirror of Balance
Look into the mirror and whisper:
"As the day equals the night, may I find balance within.
As the leaves turn and fall, may I release with grace.
As the earth prepares to slumber, may I embrace the wisdom of rest."
Pause and reflect on where you need balance in your life. What must you release? What must you embrace?
4. Offering to the Earth
Take your small offering—seeds, dried herbs, or bread—and place it upon the earth (or in a small dish to later scatter outside). Say:
"I give thanks for the gifts of the land,
May the cycle continue,
May the earth be nourished,
May I walk in harmony with the turning of the wheel."
5. Closing & Celebration
Sip your wine, cider, or tea, feeling the warmth spread through you. Give thanks for the equinox, the balance it brings, and the gifts you hold. Extinguish the candle, knowing the light will return when the time is right.
This ritual invites you to slow down, savour, and honour both abundance and release as you move deeper into autumn’s embrace. 🍁✨
🌸 Ostara: A Ritual of Awakening & New Beginnings 🐣
A Celebration of the Spring Equinox
🌿 Theme: Renewal, balance, fertility, and the return of light.
🌷 You Will Need:
A small bowl of seeds or fresh flowers (to honour new growth).
A candle in pale yellow, soft green, or white (to welcome the returning light).
A cup of honeyed milk, herbal tea, or fresh spring water (for nourishment).
An egg, real or symbolic (for fertility, creation, and potential).
A small piece of paper and pen (for setting intentions).
🌞 The Ritual
1. Create Sacred Space
Find a peaceful place outdoors or by a window where the light can reach you. Arrange your ritual items with care and light your candle, welcoming the return of warmth and life.
2. Bless the Egg: Symbol of Creation
Hold the egg in your hands, feeling its smoothness, its potential. Whisper:
"Within this shell, life stirs unseen,
A promise of what is yet to be.
May I trust the unfolding of my own becoming."
If using a real egg, you may later decorate it, bury it in the earth, or use it for a nourishing meal.
3. Setting Intentions for Growth
Write down one intention you wish to nurture during this season of renewal. Hold the paper to your heart and say:
"As the earth awakens, so too do my dreams.
May they take root, may they rise,
May they bloom in their perfect time."
Fold the paper and place it beneath a plant, in a garden, or inside a journal to revisit later.
4. Offering to the Earth
Take your seeds or flowers and gently scatter them upon the soil, saying:
"With gratitude, I give to the land,
As she gives to me in return.
May all things grow in harmony."
5. Closing & Celebration
Sip your drink, feeling the sweetness of new beginnings fill you. Take a deep breath, basking in the balance of day and night, knowing that all is in motion.
Extinguish your candle with a smile, carrying the light of Ostara within you.
This ritual invites you to step into the gentle unfolding of spring, embracing new possibilities with joy. 🌿✨
"The path of the mystic is a rose-lit spiral—each thorn a teacher, each petal a revelation, and at the heart, the fragrance of the Divine." 🌹
The Rose Temple
That’s all from me for now. I hope you find this letter and the rituals bring you the balance that you need during this turning of the wheel.
Until we meet again in the garden of the Rose…
With love & gratitude,
Zera 🌹✨
